Dear friends,
Over the years, there has always been a nascent desire to write a book. Quite surprisingly, my first book, which I now introduce to all of you, is on a topic which I had not thought it would be. This book is dedicated, with greatest love and respect, to my parents who gave me the priceless gift of life.
Gainfully employed in various organizations over the past sixteen years, it has repeatedly dawned on me that the use of spreadsheets in back office work has grown exponentially and continues to do so. Even so, very few are adept at utilizing the potentials promised by spreadsheets, often resulting in expending more than time rather than saving it. With the huge addition to the workforce each year, the need has only grown manifold.
Time saving techniques in daily work help to provide one with more time, thus giving one the opportunity to optimize utilization of the scarcest resource.
Being effective as individuals and organizations is no longer optional in today's world – it's the price of entry to the playing field…. The 8th habit, then, is not about adding one more habit to the one that somehow got forgotten. It's about seeing and harnessing the power of a third dimension to the 7 Habits that meets the central challenge of the new Knowledge Worker Age. This 8th Habit is to Find Your Voice and Inspire Others to Find Theirs.
- Stephen R. Covey
This book is meant for everyone at all levels across hierarchies, who would gain by the time saving techniques available in the most popular spreadsheet, i.e. MS Excel. It is also meant for those who aspire to be above average in the use of spreadsheets.
This book is not intended to be a comprehensive manual on MS Excel. Having never attended any formal training on the use of spreadsheets, this book is therefore uniquely presented in a format destined for ease of comprehension and use. Above all, this is a guidebook, a step-by-step 'how-to' manual which will ensure that you save much more time over the years that you have put in reading this book and practicing what it advocates.
This book is also unique in one other manner – you can commence reading this book from any chapter; each chapter is complete in itself.
I hear and I forget
I see and I remember
I do and I understand
- (Confucius, Chinese philosopher, 551-479 BC)
You need to practice hands on to really understand it and ensure that it resides permanently in your memory. As you read each chapter of this book, please work simultaneously on your computer or laptop, trying each of the features or functionalities specified herein. This is the best way to absorb and digest. At other times, use this book as a 'Referencer'.
The book is not meant for commercial gain, but is in line with the objectives of our group and more particularly, concomitant to the intentions specified in my website, http://www.reach.

Additionally, your blessings will go a long way in ensuring continued success in this new endeavour.
Best regards,
Rajesh
